Ver command prints the version of the Windows OS running on the computer. This command does not have any options/switches.
Below you can see the command’s output for different versions of Windows OS.
On Windows 7 it just prints the build number:
c:\>ver Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
On Windows XP:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
As you can see above, Ver command does not give you service pack number or the OS edition(like Home, Ultimate, Enterprise).

This command is applicable for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 and Server 2008.
